U.S. House Votes 214-213 in Favor of Impeaching DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

In a narrow vote of 214-213, the U.S. House has successfully impeached Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday, marking a culmination of multiple unsuccessful attempts. The resolution initiating the impeachment process was initially introduced by Republican Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The proceedings began when, in November, the House voted to refer articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to a committee. However, the legislative process was momentarily halted as eight Republicans aligned with Democrats in a 209-201 vote, opting to refer the resolution to committee instead of an immediate vote. Subsequently, in early February, the resolution faced another setback, failing to pass the House in a 214-216 vote, with four Republicans crossing party lines to join Democrats in opposition.

As this story continues to develop, additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
