Miami, FL — The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) has placed an officer on administrative leave following an incident involving Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill just hours before the team’s season opener. The event, which occurred Sunday morning, saw Hill briefly detained by police due to a traffic incident.
According to the Miami Dolphins, Hill was stopped by police near the stadium for a moving violation. The nature of the situation that led to his detainment remains unclear. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed that the wide receiver was ticketed but expressed concerns over the escalation of the encounter. Rosenhaus stated that his legal team is considering taking legal action, calling the treatment Hill received “completely unacceptable.”

MDPD Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that an Internal Affairs investigation has been initiated to review the incident. “Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter,” Daniels said. “One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted.”
The investigation comes as part of the department’s commitment to transparency and accountability, according to Daniels. The department has emphasized its intent to thoroughly examine the actions taken by the officers involved.
Hill’s Game Day Experience
Despite the earlier detainment, Hill played a crucial role in the Dolphins’ dramatic comeback win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dolphins defensive tackle Calais Campbell also reported being handcuffed during the incident. Campbell attempted to intervene and deescalate the situation, only to find himself detained as well. “They put handcuffs on me too, and I was like ‘What’s going on?’ I didn’t understand what the issue was,” Campbell told NFL Network.
