“Truly, the easiest part was acting in it. I want to direct again just so I can sit in the chair, because I’m sure there’s a lot of things I missed,” Ryan remarked.

In “What Happens Later,” Ryan not only stars but also took on the roles of director and co-writer. She collaborated with acclaimed actor David Duchovny, and the two found an effortless connection as they assumed their new roles, according to Interview Magazine.

“A lot of it was done in two shots. I’m proud of that,” Ryan said, underscoring the efficiency and quality of their collaboration.

Ryan gave insight into her creative process and how she successfully managed the multifaceted responsibilities of directing, writing, and acting in the project. She explained her meticulous pre-production efforts, which allowed her and Duchovny to focus on delivering authentic performances.

“I set up everything beforehand so that once we were there, it was just David and I trying to tell the truth,” Ryan revealed, shedding light on her approach to filmmaking.

Bleecker Street recently unveiled the first trailer for “What Happens Later.” In the film, Ryan and Duchovny portray a former couple who unexpectedly reunite after decades apart, marking a nostalgic return to the romantic comedy genre, in which Ryan achieved great success during her earlier days of fame. “What Happens Later” is based on Steven Dietz’s play “Shooting Star,” as reported by Interview Magazine.
