Tank Dell, wide receiver for the Houston Texans, was shot at a Florida nightclub on Saturday night, according to a report by the Associated Press (AP).
Fortunately, Dell sustained only minor injuries and has already been discharged from the hospital, as confirmed by the AP. The Texans released a statement on X (previously known as Twitter) on Sunday, acknowledging Dell’s involvement in the shooting incident. The altercation took place at the Cabana Live nightclub, which also issued a statement regarding the incident.
Authorities indicated that a verbal dispute rapidly escalated, leading to gunfire from a 16-year-old suspect directed towards attendees, though Dell was not specifically targeted, as reported by FOX35. Thankfully, the injuries sustained were deemed non-life-threatening.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, monitoring the area around Cabana Live due to a large crowd, responded swiftly upon hearing gunshots, as per the outlet. The suspect was apprehended by a security officer at the venue and subsequently taken into custody by the police.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide and firearm-related offenses, with police taking him to the Juvenile Detention Center, according to reports.
Despite the setback, Dell had an impressive rookie season, accumulating 47 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns before his season was cut short by a leg injury in Week 13, as reported by USA Today.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans provided assurance that Dell is progressing well in his rehabilitation and is anticipated to participate in off-season workouts.
