Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett Confirms Ordering Retaliatory Strikes on Iran

In a published op-ed in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett openly acknowledged giving the order for retaliatory strikes on Iran. Bennett, who held office from June 13, 2021, to June 30, 2022, revealed sensitive information without purportedly obtaining approval from the Israel Defense Forces censor unit, as reported by The Jerusalem Post. Public disclosures by Israel regarding operations against Iran are infrequent.

Bennett detailed the sequence of events, citing Iran’s failed UAV attacks on Israel in February 2022, leading to Israel’s destruction of a UAV base on Iranian soil. He also mentioned Iran’s attempted attack on Israeli tourists in Turkey and the subsequent assassination of the commander of the Iranian terror unit in Tehran.

In the op-ed, Bennett argued for direct action by Israel and the United States against Iran, emphasizing the need to counter its support for terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant responded, stating that the thunder of Israeli fighter jets would drown out unnecessary discussions and emphasizing the importance of allowing the IDF to carry out its missions safely.
