Despite his retirement, former NFL star J.J. Watt might lace up his cleats once more if the Houston Texans find themselves in dire need during the upcoming 2024 season. However, time is running out, as this season represents the Texans’ final opportunity to make it happen.
Watt, who announced his retirement after the 2022 season, disclosed his stance while hosting his annual charity softball game in Houston.
“After 12 great years in this league, I consider myself very fortunate and thankful to walk away healthy and playing great,” Watt told the media. “I told DeMeco [Ryans] last year: ‘Don’t call unless you absolutely need it, but, if you ever do call, I’ll be there.’ And he knows not to call unless he absolutely needs it. This is the last year I’ll tell him that, because I’m not going to keep training [the way] I’ve been training.”
Currently serving as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports, Watt also holds a minority ownership stake in England’s Burnley FC soccer franchise, alongside his wife Kealia, whom they acquired in 2023.
The Texans now face a pivotal decision: will they call upon Watt for one last hurrah on the gridiron?
