CIA Official Indicted for Leaking Classified Documents on Israel’s Retaliatory Strike Plans Against Iran

Asif William Rahman, a CIA official, has been indicted on charges of violating the Espionage Act by disclosing classified U.S. documents. The indictment, filed on November 7, 2024, in federal court in Virginia, accuses Rahman of the willful retention and transmission of national defense information. Specifically, he is accused of leaking a classified document concerning Israel’s preparations for a retaliatory strike against Iran in the wake of a missile attack earlier this year. Rahman was arrested in Cambodia and brought to Guam for his court appearance.

The classified document, marked “top secret” and “secure compartmented information,” was reportedly shared on the Telegram messaging app and outlined U.S. intelligence interpretations of Israeli military planning. The document was prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, based on satellite imagery from mid-October 2024. Authorities have investigated the leak since it occurred.
