Cartoon Network Series Creator Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

BURBANK, Calif. — Kyle Carrozza, the creator of the Cartoon Network series “Mighty Magiswords,” has been arrested on charges of child pornography possession. Carrozza, who has also worked on various shows for Cartoon Network, Disney, PBS Kids, and Nickelodeon, was taken into custody in Burbank, California, on June 20, according to Burbank Police Department arrest records.

Carrozza, 45, is facing two charges related to the possession of child pornography. USA TODAY has reached out to Carrozza’s representative and Cartoon Network for comment.

Known for his work as a storyboard artist and animator, Carrozza has contributed to numerous popular cartoons, including “Adventure Time,” the 2020 “Animaniacs” reboot, “Doc McStuffins,” “Fish Hooks,” “Fanboy & Chum Chum,” “Danger Rangers,” and “Teen Titans Go!” He also worked on “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” as an animator.

“Mighty Magiswords,” which Carrozza created, was Cartoon Network’s first online original series, debuting in 2015. It premiered as a full-length TV series in 2016 and ran until 2019. In addition to creating the series, Carrozza served as a voice actor, voicing over a dozen characters including Prohyas Robert Warrior, and was also the composer and executive producer of the show.

In California, possession of child pornography can be classified as either a misdemeanor or a felony. Convictions can result in a sentence of up to one year in county jail or three years in state prison, and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

The arrest has raised concerns and brought attention to Carrozza’s extensive work in children’s animation, prompting calls for further scrutiny and accountability within the industry.
