Bill Maher Calls Out Donna Brazile for Mispronouncing Vivek Ramaswamy’s Name

During the recent taping of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” political strategist and former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair Donna Brazile faced criticism from host Bill Maher for repeatedly mispronouncing the name of Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Brazile, in reference to Ramaswamy, remarked, “Vivek needs to just shut the hell up and go home,” while consistently mispronouncing his name. Maher swiftly corrected her, emphasizing the proper pronunciation as “Vivek.” Brazile responded dismissively with a “well, whatever” and continued to mispronounce Ramaswamy’s name. Maher expressed his concern, suggesting a potential element of racism in the refusal to learn and use the correct pronunciation.

Former Republican Illinois Representative Adam Kinzinger, another guest on Maher’s show, intervened, correctly pronouncing Ramaswamy’s name as “Vivek.” In response to the situation, Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate from Cincinnati, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and pondered how the reaction would differ if a white Republican intentionally mispronounced Donna Brazile’s name and told her to return ‘home.’

Ramaswamy’s post ignited a firestorm of criticism against Brazile from various social media users. One user commented, “This is the true face of left-wing elitism, casually racist while pretending to champion diversity. Pathetic display of double standards.” Another user highlighted the inconsistency in tolerating casual racism against certain groups.

Brazile, who had expressed concerns earlier this year about setbacks in minority representation within the Democratic Party, now finds herself at the center of controversy over the pronunciation incident.
