Biden Hangs Up on Netanyahu After Heated Call Over Palestinian Tax Revenue Dispute

President Joe Biden reportedly ended a phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu abruptly following a tense discussion about the Palestinian tax revenue dispute. According to sources familiar with the matter, the disagreement stems from Israel’s refusal to release some tax revenues collected for the Palestinian Authority, citing concerns that the funds could reach the Hamas terrorist group during the Israel-Hamas war.

During the call on Saturday, Biden expressed frustration with Netanyahu’s reversal on a previous solution to the dispute.

The U.S. president had suggested a temporary compromise, proposing that partial funds held by Israel be transferred to Norway until a resolution is reached. Initially accepting the proposal, Netanyahu later changed his position, insisting that the Palestinian Authority accept the funds Israel wants to provide, expressing distrust in Norway.

Concerns have been raised about the potential consequences of limiting funds to the Palestinian Authority, with the Biden administration emphasizing the risk of a collapse and increased conflict in the West Bank. The recent conversation between Biden and Netanyahu is described as the most tense and frustrating during the Israel-Hamas war. Reports suggest growing tensions between the two leaders, with Biden expressing concerns about Israel’s global support and calling for a change in government during a December campaign event.
