Actress Melissa Barrera Dropped from ‘Scream VII’ by Spyglass Over Controversial Gaza Comments

Spyglass, the production company responsible for the renowned “Scream” film series, has severed ties with actress Melissa Barrera, who was set to star in “Scream VII,” following her expression of personal views on the conflict in Gaza.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Tuesday report, Barrera has been entirely removed from the upcoming film after a series of her social media posts were deemed offensive and inconsistent with the ethos of the franchise.

In a message shared on her Instagram story, Barrera remarked, “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” expressing concern about the living conditions and hardships faced by the people. She continued, “People have learned nothing from our histories… THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”

Having played the lead character in the 2022 “Scream” movie, which grossed $137.7 million globally, and also appearing in “Scream VI,” which earned over $168.9 million worldwide, Barrera’s dismissal comes as a notable development for the franchise.

At the time of her removal, filming for “Scream VII” had not commenced, necessitating adjustments to Spyglass’s original plans in light of Barrera’s departure. This incident adds Barrera to a growing list of prominent individuals who have faced consequences, including losing roles or connections, due to their expression of views on the Gaza situation.
